An RD or and RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist) has a degree from an accredited college, completed 1600 hours of supervised practice, and passed a nationally recognized board exam. We are then held to the standards of the board which requires 75 hours of continuing education annually.
A Board-Certified Specialist in Oncology is a specialty certification issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for dietitians in the field of Oncology (or cancer treatment). A dietitian needs 2000 hours of oncology experience and pass an exam. There are only 26 dietitians with a CSO in the state of California.
During our initial appointment, there will be a lot of information sharing. I will ask you questions about your health and nutrition history. For example, do you have any medical issues like diabetes or previous attempts at weight loss. I want to learn about your health goals and what is important for you. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask me questions. At the end of our first meeting, we will have set 1-3 health goals to work on for our next visit.
I have a very non-judgmental style. People often think of a dietitian as the “food police”. Nothing could be further from the truth. My philosophy is ‘there is nothing you can’t eat, it’s a matter of how much and how often.’ Think of me as your nutrition cheerleader. Seeing you succeed in your health goals gets me excited. I will work with you and explain why some foods may be better to be minimized and how we can safely include your favorites, too.

Absolutely. I follow the American Diabetes Association standards and can help you identify dietary sources of carbohydrates and help you adjust your eating pattern to achieve better blood sugar control and lower your A1c.
